PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Children who are victims of bullying often carry scars throughout their entire lives that can have a major impact on self confidence.

Because of this, major studies are being performed to look at the impact.

A study of over 300,000 adolescent boys from lower socioeconomic backgrounds provides the most recent information. The data was collected from students aged from 12 to 17  in 83 low-, middle-, and high-income countries across much of Southeast Asia, Africa, and parts of South America and the Eastern Mediterranean.

Researchers found bullying occurs worldwide, but there was one consistent way to reduce the impact: The authors found in all countries, increased peer and parental support helped lower the risk of bullying.
