Of course, scientists don't necessarily believe in luck — they like an explanation for everything.
According to a new study from the Yale School of Public Health, long-term happiness for a married couple could depend on a person's individual genes or those of their spouse.
The researchers looked at almost 200 married couples ranging in age from 37 to 90 years old. The scientists studied the participants' saliva — those with the most successful marriages had at least one partner with something known as the GG genotype within the oxytocin gene receptor.
Oxytocin is a hormone that plays a role in social bonding.
