PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Food and Drug Administration has issued a proposed rule to require new health warnings on cigarette packages and in advertisements to dramatically show the wide variety of diseases that can occur as a result of smoking cigarettes or vaping.

The warnings will feature photo realistic color images and represent the first significant change to cigarette labels in more than 35 years.

Highlighted will be many of the commonly known disorders such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, emphysema.

Lesser known conditions will include bladder cancer, diabetes, as well as warnings about cigarette smoking leading to blindness and erectile dysfunction.
