PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) —If you are someone who has recovered from COVID-19 and you want to donate plasma, you should know the FDA has certain rules.

For instance, you must have fully recovered from COVID-19 for at least two weeks and you must be eligible to donate blood.

The FDA says a negative lab test for active COVID-19 disease is not necessary to qualify for donation, but individuals must have had a prior diagnosis of COVID-19 documented by a laboratory test.

It gets a bit complicated, but now that the plasma donations are being done more often, the people who work in the blood bank are much more familiar with the criteria, and donating plasma is definitely a way to help others.
