PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police say a 10-year-old boy has been shot in Frankford.

Authorities say around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, near Margaret Street and Torresdale Avenue, the boy was shot in the back of the head while walking home from school.

According to police, a burgundy or red Pontiac G6 passed by the corner store when someone rolled down the window and began shooting.

"You see the back window come down and someone starts firing at a group of men standing on the corner," said Philadelphia police Capt. John Walker.

One of the bullets struck the boy.

He was transported to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, where he is listed in critical condition.

Philadelphia police Capt. John Walker says the incident was likely over narcotics. This happened in broad daylight as many were making their way home, most of them children.

The Philadelphia Police Department is asking for anyone with information to call them at 215-686-TIPS.

The shooter is currently unknown. There have been no arrests.
