PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Over 100 experts on leadership, career, branding, finance, health and wellness gathered for the annual Pennsylvania Conference For Women at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

With the conference now in its 16th year, board president Leslie Stiles says they have had to evolve and expand their breakout session topics, but there are some issues that remain ever relevant.

"Certainly, self esteem is very important to young people and for women. You have to like yourself. You have to be comfortable in your own shoes to be successful," she said.

Adrean Turner of Reading was among the 10,000 attendees and describes what she believes is one of the most important issues women face today.

"We need to be compensated the way men are. But also we need to have the confidence to ask for what we want and get it," Turner said.

Turner described one of the many breakout sessions that she said resonated with her was "embracing yourself and stop being the perfectionist, and ways that you can experience joy in every day."

That was the theme that author Elizabeth Gilbert spoke about in her keynote address.

"Women are taught that we’re supposed to care equally about all things and that’s why we get subsumed and consumed, and I think it’s just a really important thing to say I really don’t care about that, these are the things that matter to me. This is where my energy is going," she said.

Attendee Molly Russim of Lafayette Hill says as women’s roles evolve in the world, there will be changes in the workplace.

"You don’t have to have a family. You can have something else you want to do with your life and we’re going to have to incorporate that optionally and that flexibility into the workforce," Russim said.
