13 Philadelphia-area moms to be recognized by nonprofit that aims to uplift mothers

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio)  Some Philadelphia-area mothers are being recognized by a nonprofit that aims to uplift mothers.

The moms will be showered with food, gift cards, balloons and a caravan of cheers by Honey's Angels, a nonprofit founded in 2006 by Cathy McVey Palmer in her honor of her mother, Honey.

McVey Palmer explained they usually help mothers during the holidays, but recently expanded to include a Marvelous Mothers program for Mother's Day.

"We look for awesome moms who have just not had great years,” she said.

Usually, they pick three winners. But this year, they decided to recognize all 13 nominees.

"There is a woman who is a speech therapist who is on the front lines of this COVID fight and she hasn't hugged her sons in over a month. There is a woman who actually nearly died of COVID. There's a nun who is not actually a mother but she's a great mother figure. There is a woman whose child passed away recently, there are single moms who are out of work and just doing everything they can to make life happy for their kids,” she said.

And McVey Palmer added this year for the first time, they'll be recognizing dads on Father's Day, too.

To nominate a Fabulous Father, email 200 words or less about why a struggling father in your life is deserving of a little extra love on Father's Day to honeysangelsphila@gmail.com.

McVey Palmer said if you prefer not to write, you can also email them a brief video nominating a dad that you'd like to recognize.

All nominations should be submitted by June 1.
