UPDATED: 11:40 a.m.
It happened at a SEPTA bus stop at the intersection of 22nd Street and Sedgley Avenue, near Ridge Avenue, shortly after 4:30 p.m.
"We had a male walking up the streets, appeared to be firing randomly as people were exiting the bus," described Acting Police Commissioner Christine Coulter.
Coulter said the man fired at a woman first but missed, then continued to fire, striking a 16-year-old girl as she was exiting the bus. At least 14 shots were fired.
The girl was later pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital, and has not yet been identified. Shopping bags were still on the ground as police continued their investigation.
Three witnesses positively identified 41-year-old Robert Jamieson as the shooter. Jamieson was found hiding behind a nearby parked car and taken into custody. He was arraigned Sunday morning and charged with murder, attempted murder, recklessly endangering another person, and assorted weapons charges. A preliminary hearing is scheduled later this month.
At a summit Saturday afternoon in Germantown to address the city's gun violence problem, Melany Nelson of Northwest Victim Services said help was available.
"We are in Temple Hospital, we're in Einstein Hospital, so we're working straight through the holiday to be able to help those who are affected by gun violence or any violence in the city of Philadelphia," Nelson explained. She said anyone in need of help can contact her directly at (267) 808-0350.
