PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The coronavirus pandemic forced all local live entertainment to be shut down. But a dozen bands are moving the show to Instagram.
When the pandemic hit, local band Humilitarian had five dates canceled for March, April and May. The band's guitarist Brendan Clarke said that's when the group started brainstorming.
"We thought since these shows are canceled, why not try to have some kind of organized live stream," he recalled.
That's when Coronachella was born.

Clarke and a former roommate, Gabriella Farrisi, put together a lineup of 12 bands. Each will play a 15-minute set on their Instagram page.
"At the end of the 15-minute set, the band then essentially directs the crowd to go to the Instagram of the next band on the schedule," Clarke explained.
Clarke says one of the big positives of Coronachella is the globalization of music, and that music lovers will now be able to see bands that they never would have seen before. The scheduled bands are from Philadelphia, South Jersey, Washington D.C., Texas, and North Carolina. Oh, and one in the Netherlands.
The show starts Saturday at 7 p.m. on Instagram.
