PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — This is usually the time of the year when Carson Wentz holds his annual charity softball game for his nonprofit, the AO1 Foundation, but like many spring plans, it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Instead, the Eagles quarterback is opting for a virtual day of relief to support his latest Love From The Crumb community initiative.

“Unfortunately, it’s not the softball game that was slated for May 8,” said Wentz. “We’re doing a virtual fundraiser called AO1 Day of Relief.”

The Love From The Crumb program delivers grocery boxes to struggling families and essential workers. To date, more than 1,200 boxes and 15,000 pounds of goods have been delivered.

“Just to give back grocery boxes to people on the front lines, people struggling in need and all over the place, that’s been really fun to see,” Wentz said.

He said each box costs about $20, so he’s encouraging people to help if they can.

“There are a lot of people that need our help right now, and even though the coronavirus outbreak has affected us all, there are also a lot of people that want to help. The AO1 Day of Relief gives the community a chance to get involved,” he added.

The 24-hour virtual fundraiser will feature a silent auction, giveaways and interviews on social media.

“I challenge and encourage everyone to spread the word and find ways that we can raise some money together so that we can give back to the area of Philadelphia that we all know and love so much.”
