“Tracking, building searches, locating lost persons — all things of that nature,” Bryant said. “Then they’ll have a specialty. It will either be narcotics detection or explosives detection. So each one of them will have a different specialty, and they will have patrol capabilities.”

The Chester County Sheriff’s Office has previously trained dogs for its office, as well as SEPTA and Ridley Township, but the public has a chance to be a part of the process this time.

“We’re a public agency, so I think this is a great idea put forth so the public can name the dogs. I think it’s going to work out well,” Bryant added.

The office already has K-9s named Don, Cairo, Marley, Maddie, Luke and Dexter, plus retired K-9 Yukon.

“For our two new dogs, we are looking for names that are unique, but of course, quick and easy to pronounce,” said Sheriff Fredda Maddox.

To suggest a name, email yukon@chesco.org by 5 p.m. on Sept. 18. The two names will be announced by the end of the month.

“Both of the dogs have been chosen because they show the perfect temperament and intelligence to excel at being part of our Chester County Sheriff’s Office K-9 team,” Maddox added. “Now, all that they need are to be named as they begin their extensive training.”
