PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A North Philadelphia charter school was closed Wednesday after a fire broke out in the building Tuesday night.

Because of the damage from the flames and the water that was needed to put the fire out, officials say they needed to cancel classes and after-school activities.

This closure affects 540 students, from kindergarten through 12th grade, as well as their families, who had to scramble because of how late the fire was and the announcement that there was no school. It is not yet clear when the school will re-open.
