PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — With the weather turning warmer, the Avenue of the Arts organization in South Philadelphia is focusing on sprucing up the South Broad Street neighborhood.

Paul Beideman, president of the organization, says personnel are working at an accelerated pace to get Broad Street from City Hall south to Washington Avenue as well as the area of Broad between 13th and 15th streets in shape.

He says there's lots of cleanup and planting work under way thanks to a partnership with the Center City District and the Ready, Willing and Able organization.

"About 100 planters that are along the Avenue and the street-level beds that run all the way between Lombard and Washington Avenue," Beideman said. "To just do what we can do to keep things clean, safe, inviting, friendly, walkable and wheelable."

Beideman says evening activity picks up dramatically at the theaters and restaurants in the neighborhood this time of year.

"If you're walking down the Avenue of the Arts this evening or sometime over the weekend, you can really be struck by the level of activity and the crowds that are there each and every day," Beideman added.
