Court records reveal West Philly woman charged in foster daughter's murder had history of child abuse
Philadelphia Police Department

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The West Philadelphia woman accused of killing her 10-year-old foster daughter and hiding the body for two weeks had a documented history of child abuse, according to court documents.

Carprice Williams, a 36-year-old teacher at Cassidy Academics Plus School, was charged with murder, endangering the welfare of a child, reckless endangerment, abuse of a corpse and possession of an instrument of crime after officials found 10-year-old Malayshia Alford’s body in the trunk of a car at an apartment complex in Lindenwold, New Jersey, on Thursday.

Malayshia was last seen alive on Oct. 22. She was reported missing on Oct. 26. Video from the early morning hours of Oct. 26 showed Malayshia was removed from Williams' home on North Simpson Street “in some type of bag.” The New Jersey Medical Examiner's Office determined the cause of death as resulting from blunt force trauma and ruled it a homicide.

Legal documents obtained by our newsgathering partners at NBC10 revealed that two children told investigators this week they witnessed Williams throw Malayshia down the stairs, hit her with a phone cord, and abuse her in some way every time they visited the home.

Investigators believe Malayshia was beaten to death between Oct. 22 and 26.

Police said a family member of Williams assisted her in hiding Malayshia’s body and ultimately led investigators to the car her body was found in.

Court records show Williams was at the center of a civil suit against organizations supervising children in her care, alleging she abused a 4-year-old in 2021.

That case was settled, and Williams’ house was closed as a foster home. It’s not clear why or how Williams began fostering children again.
