MEDIA, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A Delaware County woman has been charged after prosecutors say she made a false sexual assault claim.

Prosecutors say 18-year-old Shian Skylar Mengini lied to police about an encounter with another woman, in which she said the woman sexually assaulted her.

Mengini said she met the woman online and invited her to her home on April 20.

She told authorities that she locked herself in a bathroom and told the other woman she was married. When she opened the door, she claims the woman entered the bathroom and sexually assaulted her.

Days later, Mengini's husband told police that she received threatening messages from the other woman's husband. When detectives interviewed Mengini further, she admitted that she sent the messages to herself.

Mengini also told the detectives that the rendezvous was consensual, and that she made up the story because she was mad at her husband and bored.

"We take any report of assault seriously," said Delaware County District Attorney Katayoun Copeland in a statement. "The fact that Shian Mengini fabricated this serious allegation because she was angry with her husband and bored is both criminal and inexcusable."

A preliminary hearing for Mengini is scheduled for May 16.
