Dozens of Philly-area nonprofits get nearly $7 million in Pew grants

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A charitable organization awarded a total of $6.8 million in grants to dozens of organizations in the region to assist with critical need efforts during the COVID-19 crisis.

One of the recipients is Action Wellness where spokesperson Sarah DeLaurentis said their $210,000 grant will help support the continuation of behavioral health services to clients with HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses.

"We recognize that individuals suffering from physical and/or mental illness often use substances as a coping mechanism and so our targeted population is particularly vulnerable to succumbing to that, and as a direct result, becoming lost in care," she said. "So this is one of the ways in making sure our clients stay connected to care even with what we are dealing with right now."

The Bethesda Project was awarded $275,000 grant to help provide housing and other services to chronically homeless.

And a $125,000 grant went to Career Wardrobe to help the organization provide clothes and life skill classes to those entering the workforce.
