PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 25-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Friday in West Philly. Now her family members are speaking out.

Avante Reynolds left behind a 2-month-old son and a loving family.

"We're hurt. We want justice," said Ernest Brown, Reynolds' uncle. He spoke to NBC 10 because her father was too heartbroken to talk.

"She's young, she got her head on her shoulders. She’s never been in no trouble. She has a family that loves her."

Police said Reynolds was struck by two cars Friday night around 8:15 p.m. when she was crossing the Cobbs Creek Parkway near Catharine Street.

According to reports, a light-colored car hit Reynolds and moved her into opposing traffic. Then a second car hit her.

Police said the first car fled the scene, but the driver of the second car waited for police to arrive.

Reynolds was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

"If anybody knows anything, they should let us know or let the authorities know what's going on. Any cameras, anybody was there. And the guy, whoever, just needs to turn themselves in,” Brown said.

Police said speeding was not a factor in the crash, but neighbors said speeding is a common issue in that West Philly area.

"We've been trying to get stop signs around here as long as lived here, on 60th Street, 61st, 62nd,” one neighbor explained, "but to no avail because we are still having these fatal accidents."

Another neighbor said, "Speeding, all the time. It’s never really enforced. 25 miles per hour is never really enforced. They do what they want to do out here."

Police did not provide a description of the first car. Anyone with information should contact 215-686-TIPS.
