PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Former U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah has been released from prison, though it’s unclear where he’s been moved to and why.

The 63-year-old ex Philadelphia congressman was sentenced to 10 years in prison just last year.

Fattah was convicted in 2016 on corruption charges. He successfully appealed some of the charges but was resentenced again in 2019.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania declined to comment, referring instead to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.

A bureau spokesperson said in an email that Fattah was transferred to community confinement on June 8, meaning that he is either in home confinement or a Residential Reentry Center (RRC, or halfway house).

The spokesperson said Fattah’s projected release date is Aug. 1, 2025.

There was no clarification on why or where he was transferred.
