PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Pennsylvania mother and son have been charged in the stabbing death of a college soccer athlete who was found in the trunk of her car.

Eighteen-year-old Royce Moser told state troopers that “demons” made him kill his girlfriend, 18-year-old Karoline Heintz.

According to court documents, Moser said Heintz came by his house Wednesday night. They briefly spoke, and he said she “made him mad” — so he went inside, grabbed a knife and stabbed her in the chest in the driveway of his home.

He then told detectives that his mother, 56-year-old Rachel Moser, helped him hide Heintz’s car, where her body would later be discovered in the trunk. Police said Rachel Moser cleaned up the car with disinfectant, washed her son’s clothes, and told him to shower.

Rachel Moser has been charged with tampering with evidence, hindering apprehension and abuse of corpse offenses.

Royce Moser is charged with criminal homicide and related offenses.

Heintz was a recent high school grad and incoming freshman student-athlete at California University of Pennsylvania, located about an hour south of Pittsburgh.

"We're talking about an 18-year-old girl who was getting ready to start life, and now she can no longer pursue her dreams, which is really unfortunate," said Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Rocco Gagliardi.
