Federal workers awaiting paychecks still visiting 'emergency market'

A South Philadelphia "emergency market" continues to serve federal workers after the federal government shutdown ended.

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — They're back to work but waiting for their pay. Federal employees are still in need of donations. 

Bread, cereal, fresh vegetables and milk just some of the items government workers were stuffing into bags and boxes inside Xfinity Live in South Philadelphia on Wednesday.

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia's Nutritional Development Services were among organizations supplying food at the site dubbed "Emergency Market."

Asked how hard it ahs been to cope with the partial government shutdown, she said, "Well it's been stressful not knowing when the paycheck is going to come. I mean, they say this week. I have confidence that they will pay us ASAP."

She says when she gets the money, much of it will go to bills she had to put off.
