Around 10:30 p.m., a 40-year-old woman contacted authorities saying that her daughter's friend, a 15-year-old girl, put her newborn son in a dumpster on the 2200 block of Lehigh Avenue.
The woman retrieved the 15-year-old girl's baby from the dumpster, and he was taken to Temple University Hospital by authorities, where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Officers went to the suspect's home, which is believed to be where the teen gave birth. The 15-year-old was placed under arrest and also taken to the hospital for precautionary medical treatment.
No other details have been released. This is an ongoing investigation with the Philadelphia Police Homicide Unit.
