PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Glenside man is recovering from COVID-19 after being slammed with the virus on March 14. He has been quarantined for nearly three weeks, and says he used that time to look at life from a different perspective.

Dan Lahr is self-employed, working in commercial refrigeration and equipment. He knew he had coronavirus from the start, but the doctors' office said he didn't meet criteria for the test and claimed he probably had the flu.

Lahr pushed for the test and tested positive. But it was 13 days after onset.

"They determined I was probably on my way to recovery and trying drugs they were using, the side effects would be more detrimental than the recovery I was going through," he said.

Lahr has a wife and his daughter has cerebral palsy who are both self-isolating. He decided to use his free time to work on a foundation they had set up years ago to help other kids with cerebral palsy get surgery to walk independently.

"I guess it was a little bit of an eye opener. You put things off. I kind of decided, I'm 44, I need to re-evaluate. There's more important things in life and you can't always say you'll get to it," he said.

Lahr says the virus has given him a new perspective on what's important to him: the people and relationships in our lives.
