Gov. Wolf vetoes bill to reopen businesses

HARRISBURG, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — As promised, Gov. Tom Wolf has vetoed a bill that would have required him to draw up a plan to reopen businesses, based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the federal Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

In his veto message, the governor said these are unprecedented times, with no easy choices, and that reopening businesses too soon would increase the spread of coronavirus.

With that in mind, a spokesman for House majority Republicans said they expect to pass a bill that would create a pandemic cost and recovery task force — after removing provisions inserted by the Senate that would have given counties the authority to reopen businesses.

The spokesman said there is no indication the governor would sign a bill with such a provision.
