Seventy years ago, Joe's Steaks opened in Northeast Philadelphia with a simple recipe.
"When our original shop opened in 1949, they didn't serve cheese at all. It was just a plain steak with or without onions," said Joe's Steaks' Stefani Lee Ryan.
Since then, the business added a second location in Fishtown, and they've gotten a little more creative with their steaks, like their one paying homage to the Flyers.

Ryan says from the wiz to the rolls, it's something special.
"The raw onions and the Cheetos just gave it that extra crunch we felt embodied the Gritty mascot that we have," she said.
For their 70th anniversary, Joe's has rolled out some uniquely Philly cheesesteaks and milkshakes.
"We've done a scrapple cheesesteak, we've done a kielbasas cheesesteak, we've done a pretzel bun cheesesteak. We had a chocolate covered Herr's potato chip milkshake, we're doing a tastykake next month," Ryan said.
"It looks really weird, but when I bit into it I felt like it could be something I ate all the time," she said.
Joe's Steaks officially turns 70 on Memorial Day.
