CAMDEN, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Jury deliberations resume Monday morning at 9 a.m. in Camden federal court in the case of a Camden police officer charged with using excessive force against a man in February of last year, then filing a false police report.

Nicholas Romantino has been suspended without pay in light of the February 2018 incident involving Edward Minguela outside a Camden liquor store.

Police were responding to a report of a man with a gun and Minguela matched the description.

Video from police and the store shows Minguela with his hands up when Romantino wrestles him to the ground and punches him a dozen times before putting handcuffs on the man.

It turned out Minguela was not armed.

Assistant U.S. attorney Jason Richardson and defense lawyer Daniel Rybeck delivered closing statements Friday before Judge Robert Kugler sent the jury to deliberate. They discussed the case for just under three hours before breaking Friday.
