
While arguably the most significant race was Philadelphia mayor — incumbent Jim Kenney against Republican Billy Ciangalini — the city’s new voting machines seemed to be the talk of the town.
There were seven open City Council at-large seats, as well as several judge races for Superior Court, Court of Common Pleas and Municipal Court, though several are on the ballot for retention.
Although a Pennsylvania question on Marsy’s Law — which would give crime victims specific constitutional rights — remained on the ballot, a judge ruled last week the state would not count the results of the question, as a legal challenge to the proposed amendment is still pending.
In New Jersey, all state General Assembly seats were up for grabs, as well as a special District 1 Senate position. Republican Mike Testa edged out incumbent Bob Andrzejczak in a special state Senate election.
There’s a statewide question about a tax deduction for veterans, and a ballot question for Jersey City residents regarding regulations for short-term rentals like Airbnb.
