PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The coronavirus pandemic has prompted a global level 3 health advisory, changing the way people are able to conduct international travel. A Philadelphia man who recently returned to the U.S. from a trip to Europe and Africa shared his firsthand account of the precautions and perils brought by those changes.
Joshua Doose spent a lot of time, money, and effort planning a 10-day holiday to Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, and was determined to make that trip happen, even with coronavirus concerns.
"I had a great time," he shared. "It's about being safe when you're out."
The North Philadelphia resident said there are noticeably different ways each country regulates travel as they try to stop the spread of coronavirus.
"Honestly the most prepared country I was at was Morocco," he said. "I had to sign a waiver when I came into the country. They did temperature checks and talked to each person individually, before they entered the country."
Upon his return to the states, Doose said he was greeted with a barrage of questions and security measures.
"They stopped me immediately, they scanned your temperature," he recalled. "Now when it came to people who are foreign, the questioned them a little bit more."
Even though he was not sick, and had no symptoms, Doose decided it was best to self-quarantine.
"I did have to meet with the Doctor at my job," he said. "We do have a doctor and nurse on staff. I had to talk with them over the phone before I could come back to work."
But even with the quarantine, and risk of exposure to the virus, Doose said would take his trip again in a heartbeat.
