PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 21-year-old dance student has made the Philadelphia Eagles cheerleading squad. Normally, that's not news. But this time it's a man, and he's the first to join since 1984.

"It's kind of heartwarming to know Eagles fans have seen this before. Even if it was a couple of years ago," said Kyle Tanguay.

Tanguay has been training as a dancer for 10 years and he can't wait to show everyone why the Eagles picked him.

"I'm really excited to just be on the field and kind of honing in on that energy that the fans bring. There's no fans like Eagles fans and I'm really excited to kind of be a part of that," he said.

Mark Merschen wore the Kelly Green in 1984 to 1985 and says this will be a year Tanguay never forgets.

"He's going to be on a roller coaster ride for sure. But I would say it's a good thing and I would say don't let anyone tell you no. If that's what you really want, go for it," Merschen said.

Both say the support in the City of Brotherly Love outweighs any negativity that might come along.

"The Eagles is so inclusive and I'm so excited to be able to walk into a stadium with fans that I know are going to take me in."
