Philly's official election results show millennials closing the gap in voter turnout

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Look out, baby boomers. Millennials are closing the gap in yet another area where people over 50 have long been at the top.

City Commissioner Al Schmidt says this is the third straight election in which the largest increase in voter turnout was among those between 18 and 34. Those over 50 continue to vote in the largest numbers, but he says the gap is shrinking.

The just-certified final results of the election also show the turnout geography. It was highest in ward 21, in the northwest, and wards 5 and 8 in Center City.
