Republican Pat Browne, the Senate Appropriations Committee chairman, told a meeting of the Main Line Chamber of Commerce that a minimum wage hike remains in play before the legislature’s scheduled summer break at the end of the month.
Gov. Tom Wolf wants to raise the minimum wage to $12 an hour at first with gradual increases to $15 an hour, but seems realistic about what he can get.
“I don’t know where we’ll land, but I…what I believe is there is a broad agreement that we can’t stick around $7.25 any longer. We’ve got to move," Wolf said.
Sen. Browne was asked about that potential landing spot and if it will be more or less than $10 an hour.
“Well, It’s going to be somewhere closer to that, I guess. I guess that’s the best thing to say at this point in time," Browne said.
But he could not say if he believes a deal will get done before summer recess.
