PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio)  Philadelphia police continue to search for the driver who struck a 4-year-old boy nearly two weeks ago in the city’s Tacony neighborhood and took off. The child’s family is begging for answers as the boy remains in critical condition.

Christopher Currid had just gotten a popsicle from the ice cream truck parked along Keystone Street near Magee Avenue when a silver Honda (between 2002 and 2008) with tinted windows came barreling through stop signs, sped around the truck and struck him, police say.

It happened just after 9 p.m. on Aug. 16.

He remains in critical condition with head trauma and has been transferred from St. Christopher’s Hospital to CHOP, said his mother Carolyn Zirkelbach.

“My son is never going to be the same. This driver has ruined my family. He had older brothers who were there and saw this accident happen. My 8-year-old nephew was there and saw it happen. They are traumatized, the whole family is just devastated,” she said.

Officers say surveillance video shows the car went through two more stop signs, turned onto Longshore Avenue, and then went east towards State Road.

There is still a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the driver, and a GoFundMe page has been set up for the family.
