PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Friends and family of the victims in Wednesday morning's fatal head-on collision in South Philadelphia are responding to the tragedy with fundraising campaigns.
Two members of the South Philadelphia String Band, 31-year-old Dennis Palandro, whose father is the captain of the club, and 36-year-old Joe Ferry, as well as Ferry's fiancee, 35-year-old Kelly Wiseley, all died in the collision when a car, going the wrong way on Packer Avenue, slammed into their SUV.
A friend of Wiseley's mother created a GoFundMe campaign for the woman's family to help cover funeral and other expenses. The campaign, set up early Thursday morning, has a goal of $10,000.
Nicole Palandro, 30, who was married to Dennis, was a third passenger in the SUV. She survived with injuries including a broken pelvis. A friend of hers has also set up a campaign on GoFundMe.
"Nicole is hurt bad and she is experiencing a loss I can't even wrap my head around. Denny was SO loved," reads the fundraising page.
The campaign's organizer says that, in under four hours, the fund raised over $27,000. By late Thursday morning, it was nearing its goal of $50,000.
