PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Another powerful round of storms Friday night added more water to already swollen rivers and creeks through the area.

Water has mostly subsided but left a mess for people to clean up all weekend, even as many were still cleaning up after Tropical Storm Isaias.

John Radomile from Delaware County told NBC10 he watched the fire department rescue a person from a car in rapidly rising water.

“I’ve never seen anything like this. I’ve been here for six years and never seen the water this high. It went from being in the creek to being in the road in about 10 minutes,” he said.

“They had to bring a fire truck with the ladder to get him out. Because it was actually, the other day, the truck was in there even farther, and it was probably up to, over the doors.”

More than half a million homes and businesses lost power during Isaias, and thousands of outages linger, with some new outages reported Friday night. While the vast majority of people have been reconnected, PECO and PSE&G said some people will have to wait another day or more before they get hooked up again.

A bolt of lightning struck a tree along Route 41 in Deptford at about 5:30 Friday night. It knocked down utility lines before landing in Jessica Eichfeld’s front yard. She told KYW Newsradio they had electric service about 12 hours later.

"They were out here last night, all night long, still going now. So yeah, I think they did a pretty good job," she said.

Both power companies stressed making sure to report your outage and not to rely on a neighbor’s reporting, because problems can be nested to individual homes in some cases.
