“It's a total disaster that we are stuck with,” said board member Saima Bhutta of the coronavirus pandemic.
Very early on, the board decided to reach out to police and fire departments, as well as emergency medical technicians, throughout Voorhees, Delran and Moorestown to see what first responders needed.
They ordered personal protective equipment (PPE) online — before there was a tremendous surge for the items. Muslim communities across the state also pitched in to help with the collection for essential workers.
“We delivered 1,000 surgical masks, 600 face shields and 10,000 gloves to the first responders,” Bhutta said.
More surgical gowns and N95 masks are on the way for area hospitals, like Cooper University Health Care, and first responders throughout Camden and Burlington counties.
The federation also dropped off some masks and gloves for seniors in the area.
“We all need to pitch in when it's needed,” Bhutta said.
