Murphy said New Jersey parents who are worried about sending their children to school buildings this fall will be able to opt for a digital education.
“The Department of Education will be releasing guidance allowing for parents to choose all-remote learning for their children. Again, the details will be coming out later this week, but we wanted everyone to know now that we will allow for this step,” he said.
Murphy didn’t offer specifics, saying the plan in the works had “a lot of moving parts.”
Last month, his back-to-school guidance mandated at least some in-person learning, but it left the details up to individual districts.
The state Health Department Monday also launched an online survey to be filled out by people flying into New Jersey airports from coronavirus hotspots.
Travelers from high-COVID states will be reminded of the requirement to self-quarantine for 14 days.
Murphy also said he was signing an executive order allowing practices for high-risk sports, such as football and wrestling, as long as they are held outdoors.
With 177 new positive cases, the state now has a total of 176,963 coronavirus cases and 13,741 fatalities.
