As they rework the bill, one proposed change took the New Jersey Business and Industry Association by surprise. Provisions to protect an employer’s right to ban marijuana in the workplace, which were in the original legislation, were gone.
Mike Wallace, vice president of government affairs, immediately went to the Capitol and spoke with sponsors.
“Pointing out where the provision had been removed and after all of that work, the sponsors did agree to put back in place the worker protection provisions," he said.

Wallace has yet to see a revision that includes the marijuana at work ban option, but he told KYW Newsradio, “As long as those workplace protections are in the bill, we can expect to maintain a neutral position on the legislation as a whole.”
The measure is for debate and likely to be voted Monday in the Assembly Appropriations Committee, the first step toward approval that all sides are hoping to get before the end of the month.
