As the Eagles get ready for their second preseason game on Thursday in Jacksonville, head coach Doug Pederson did not say if Wentz would see any playing time.
Significant snaps in the preseason for top players, especially quarterbacks, continue to dwindle. But there would be few complaints at the NovaCare Complex if Wentz did not see any snaps in the final three preseason games.
The quarterback said he will be ready to go for the regular season, even if he doesn't see the field over the next three weeks.
Pederson has still kept a high tempo with his practices while staying within the rules of the league regarding training camp workouts. He believes Wentz is getting the kind of work he needs to prepare him for the regular season opener.
"He's done some great things out here," Pederson said. "The way the practices are set up in training camp is hard ... as hard as they can be in camp. Not just for him, but for everybody. We've seen a lot of good things. He's progressing and getting better every single day. The timing and rhythm with his receivers is getting better."
"We feel great out here," Wentz added. "These practices are obviously very high intensity. The defense that we have is extremely talented. They present a lot of different looks and everyone's flying around. This is as game-like as you can get, minus the hitting."
When the Eagles play the Jaguars on Thursday, they will see a familiar face on the other sideline. Former Eagles quarterback Nick Foles is now in Jacksonville, but the Super Bowl hero may also be held out of the game. With injuries to the offensive line, the Jaguars are unlikely to put Foles at risk Thursday night.
Either way, Wentz will be happy to see his former teammate.
"I'm excited to see him," Wentz said. "It's been a while. We still keep in touch here and there, but I'm just excited to see him. He's a great friend. I wish him the best down there."
