Pa. parks open all camping facilities — with familiar coronavirus precautions

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Starting Friday, cabins, cottages, lodges and yurts are open for visitors, completing the phased-in reopening of facilities at Pennsylvania’s state parks.

Cindy Adams Dunn, secretary of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, said campers will need to make reservations for those facilities online.

Dunn also advises keeping COVID-19 precautions in mind.

“Camping is something that people really enjoy in the summertime,” Dunn said. “I mean, it is frankly safer than maybe some travel or maybe what people may have done heading somewhere else.

“I think we’re going to see a lot of camping, which is great, because it’s a good opportunity to reconnect with that outing.”

In this region, sites were so popular last weekend that rangers had to make some moves to ensure social distancing.

“You may see some changes," Dunn said. For example, in areas where camp sites are set close together, alternating sites may be closed off.
