HARRISBURG, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — The state Senate has sent the House a bill to eliminate child marriage in Pennsylvania.

Current Pennsylvania law grants exceptions that can enable those under 18 to get a marriage license. For example, someone age 15 or under can get one if a court decides it is in the best interest of the minor and parental consent has been given.

There are even looser requirements for those age 16 and 17.

By a unanimous vote, the state Senate has now approved a bill that would set the minimum age for marriage at 18 in Pennsylvania with no exceptions.

The bill now goes to the House for consideration.
