PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Pennsylvania's Veterans Trust Fund is awarding $800,000 in grant money to nearly 30 organizations that support veterans programs across the commonwealth.

Tim Williams, executive director of the Veterans Multi-Service Center in Old City, says the $25,000 grant his group recieved will be used for its women's veterans program, now in its fifth year.

"Its goal is to provide a space and a program specific to its unique needs of women veterans," he said. "We offer crisis intervention, housing case management, benefits counseling and assitance with immediate needs, meals, clothing, toiletry products and a bunch of wellness events." Among  other local recipients: Community Action Agency of Delaware County receives $36,000 to provide mortgage assistance to needy veterans; Miltary Assistance Project in Philly gets nearly $50,000 to provide free legal services; and the Montgomery County office of Veterans Affairs will get $8,000 for its transportation program.

The Veterans Trust Fund runs largely on $3 donations people can make when applying or renewing a driver's license, photo ID or registration.
