PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Parks on Tap returns to Philadelphia Thursday for its fourth season.

The Parks on Tap program is a group effort among Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, Fairmount Park Conservancy and FMC Hospitality. A portion of sales from beer, booze and food will go to the Philadelphia park system.

The traveling pop-up beer gardens span 23 parks throughout the city each week through September. The first one on the schedule takes place behind the Philadelphia Museum of Art at the Azalea Garden.

The program kicked off the season in the garden along Kelly Drive Wednesday with Mayor Jim Kenney.

"This program invites families, friends and neighbors to engage and explore our beautiful and expansive park system in a very unique way," he said. "It also allows them to become more connected to the parks within walking distance of their homes and explore new parks within the city."

Brian O'Reilly, brewmaster for Mainstay Independent Brewing Company, said the brewery created Parks Pale Ale exclusively for Parks on Tap.

"I really like the fresh hop character," he said of the beer. "Some of the hops that are in here — mosaic and citra — are very fruit-forward, juice-forward. Stone fruit. Orange zest. We also have centennial cascade that is a little bit piney."

Parks on Tap is also selling reusable cups this year, which gets you $1 off your beverage when you utilize it.
