PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Even with local gyms and studios closed due to COVID-19, fitness lovers are still finding ways to build muscle and community.

Hagana and Callie Kim, owners of Tuck Barre & Yoga, have been offering fitness classes via Facebook since they closed their studio doors due to coronavirus restrictions.

"So many people that we have never met from different states. This is a weird time. We just wanted to give people an outlet," he added.

Dozens of other Philadelphia studios and instructors are also taking their practice online, though each one in their own way.

Mark Donohue of Unite Fitness said they're using Instagram and Youtube to help people stay active while they're inside.

"The power of community and connection. There's so many unknowns and who knows how long this is going to last. So we're doing our best to just focus day by day and really just focus on the positives," Donohue said.

While it's a great temporary fix for the time being, instructors agree that virtual classes can't take the place of in-person classes.

"It builds community. It brings people together from all different backgrounds all different ages. It gives us a common space to be in. A space to get to know one another, a space to grow stronger both mentally and physically," said fitness instructor Alyssa Beerger.
