Officials say Officer John Sears was off duty when the incident happened last Sunday evening.
Officers responding to a report of an overturned vehicle in the northbound lanes of Roosevelt Boulevard at Bustleton Avenue found Sears and a person he hit still in their vehicles. At that point, they helped the two out of their cars and made sure they were OK.
They say Sears, a 13-year veteran of the force, failed a breathalyzer test at police headquarters.
He is currently assigned to the Safety Office.
