PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Northeast Philadelphia man will spend the rest of his life in prison for his role in a violent drug trafficking organization that was behind the murder of a Philly police sergeant.
Kelvin “Nip” Jimenez, 35, was sentenced to life and an additional 30 years about a year and a half after he was convicted of murder, racketeering conspiracy, and drug trafficking conspiracy.
Federal prosecutors said he was a high-level decision-maker of a drug trafficking organization known as “SG1700” and “L-Block” in the Frankford section of Northeast Philadelphia, and he sold large amounts of drugs while part of the gang.
He was initially charged in March 2023 alongside three co-conspirators with RICO offenses and violent crimes in aid of racketeering. These included multiple killings, most notably the March 2020 homicide of Philadelphia Police Sgt. James O’Connor.
O’Connor was serving a warrant on Bridge Street, near Bustleton Avenue, when he was shot through a closed door.
