Since opening a couple weeks ago, Parks on Tap has been firmly rooted in a sylvan setting — a 70,000-square-foot space outside the Fairmount Park Horticulture Center.
General Manager Mike Kelly says he and his staff decided on that location after realizing that moving the venue each week as they've done in the past was too risky in a COVID-19 environment.
"We decided it would be wiser and more beneficial to pick larger parks that would better allow us to meet health and safety guidelines."
Those guidelines include having lines no longer than 10 people at the bar or food trucks. Security and staff are wearing masks at all times, and guests can take their masks off only when they're sitting at a table.
"So, really, our capacity is limited to the line length of 10 people or less. And we've found that about 250 people is the max for that," Kelly said.
"People have been enjoying the fact that they can get out and experience a little bit of nature and grab a beer and spend some time with their family and maybe have a little sense of normalcy," he said.
Kelly says they are looking to add another location this summer, but for now, he says, they're taking baby steps.
