PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — For the second time in less than a week, a child has been shot in Philadelphia.

Police say a 6-year-old girl is in stable condition after she was shot once in the chest just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday during some sort of gathering on 42nd Street near Westminster in the city's Belmont section.

Police haven't made any arrests. Commissioner Danielle Outlaw says they need information to find who did this.

"At this point, we need anybody with knowledge of what happened here to not only come forward and let us know, but to be as descriptive as possible to help us put the people or person responsible for this behind bars," she said.

"We are getting back to our normal allocation of officers in various neighborhoods, and beginning to go out and interface with people who are in danger of being shot, or being shooters and meet with them face to face. It's been difficult during the pandemic because we have to stay away," said Mayor Kenney, who was asked about the shooting.

This shooting comes just days after a 7-year-old boy was shot over the weekend in Southwest Philadelphia when caught in crossfire involving three men. He died on Monday.
