The victim is said to be in her 30s. Authorities say she was shot in the chest around North Ninth and West York streets just before 6 p.m.
A man was critically wounded and managed to drive the pregnant woman to Temple University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. He is currently in extremely critical condition.
Doctors performed an emergency C-section but were unable to save the baby's life.
Investigators say there are no arrests at this time but they have recovered a gun.
This shooting comes just a few days after a 19-year-old woman was fatally shot about a mile away in front of a Catholic school near 10th and Thompson streets in North Philadelphia.
A group of activists from the Philadelphia Anti-Drug/Anti-Violence Network (PAAN) were at the scene and the hospital to offer support.
