Joseph Iavarone, 44, was shot in the head by his neighbor around 3 a.m. Sunday near his home on Bishops Drive in Chester Heights.
State Police say John Ballas, 49, shot Iavarone. He was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, and about a day later Iavarone died from that gunshot wound.
Iavarone had worked as a teacher in the Garnet Valley School District for a number of years, but he had recently resigned.
In a written statement, Garnet Valley School District Superintendent Dr. Marc Bertrando says counselors will be made available for all students and staff at all schools in the district.
Meanwhile, Ballas was arraigned Monday on charges related to the shooting.
