PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Authorities have released video of a man who they say sexually assaulted a woman in an Overbrook basement apartment, then shot another.
On Sunday around 5:30 a.m., a man entered the basement bedroom of two women, located along Brockton Road off of Haverford Avenue, near Rose Playground and Cobbs Creek Golf Club.
"The women were asleep," said Special Victims Unit Capt. Mark Burgmann. "He awakened the (21-year-old) victim, the rape victim. She began to scream — that alerted her roommate, who was then shot by the individual."
The women begged the man to take whatever he wanted and leave, but the 23-year-old woman was shot in the abdomen.
"She was rushed to Lankenau (Medical Center), where she was admitted and still is in critical condition," he added.
The man, believed to be in his 20s, fled the scene on foot.
Detectives scoured the neighborhood for video and found a person of interest trying to break into nearby cars.
"There were some vehicles broken into," Burgmann said. "We did recover video of this individual ransacking a car."
In the video, the armed man — dressed in all black with a ski mask and bright neon-green and blue gloves — is seen retrieving something from a white car, then gently shutting the door.
The person of interest is considered armed and dangerous.
