PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia Police are investigating a shooting in the Queen Village section of the city Thursday night that left five people wounded.
Police say five people were playing dice in the courtyard of an apartment complex on 5th Street near Carpenter Street when, just before midnight, a car pulled up and two men inside got out and shot them, wounding all five. The victims, between 19 and 57 years old, were all taken to the hospital and are expected to survive.
Police say there was some return fire, and in all there were about 17 shots, but they're not sure if the shooters from the car were hit before they got away..
A neighbor who lives at the apartment complex says the violence is nothing new. She described the terrifying moments.
"I was watching TV and went to get up. Before I got up, I heard all these gunshots. I heard a car, and I heard a lot of shots, people hollering," she said. "It was pop, pop, pop. It was a whole lot of popping, and you can tell it wasn't no firecrackers."
She says she went to the window to look out, and she heard more shots, so she hit the floor to be safe, something she says she has to do too often.
Police say there was no argument or fight leading up to the shooting, so it's not clear what prompted the violence.
